“A” Division Gold Medal Game HMHA Hurricanes 3, Maple Lodge Farms 1, This game was going to be exciting as the long awaited Championship game had finally arrived. Both coaches were excited yet a little nervous as it was anyone’s guess who was going to take home the Gold. With two ties and a win under Tom Curries Maple Lodge Farms, the edge was leaning their way but Hurricanes coach John Kears wanted a different outcome. Jamie Meadows scored first for the Hurricanes in what seemed to look like a high bounce that went over goalie Derek Bancarz but it was enough to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead after the first period. Dalton Thierrien tied the game just 14 seconds in the 2nd period and seemed to have regained the edge his team had lost in the first period. After that goal, the tandem Hurricane goalies Matthew Kovacs and Shane Connors closed the doors on all future attacks. Two late 2nd period goals by Jamie Whittaker and Spencer Robinson gave the Hurricanes a 3-1 lead after two periods. It was to be a lead that the Hurricanes never gave up as both teams played end to end hockey in the third but Maple Lodge Farms just couldn’t buy a goal. As the final buzzer sounded, there was a new champion in town and it was all because of the Hurricanes!
